The 19B Darjeeling ‘B’ Class locomotive. 1889.
‘19B’ Sharp Stewart & Co, Glasgow engine number 3518 of 1889 built for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway as one of their ‘B’ class of locomotives. Originally numbered 19 it became 778 under the all-Indian number scheme. This is the only ‘B’ Class locomotive to leave India, after it was sold and exported to the USA in 1962. It was acquired by the late Adrian Shooter in 2003 and returned home to the United Kingdom that year, it was subsequently restored to run on the Beeches Light Railway and has visited various railway since its restoration. The locomotive had a full annual boiler inspection and was certified on 13th, February, 2023.
The locomotive has its original 1889 wrought iron boiler which has one year remaining on its current certificate. The boiler is one of the oldest working boilers in the world, this locomotive is the only Darjeeling to leave India. Also to include steam train wheels which Will fit the 19B and its original roof.
The locomotive has 8 replica plates attached to it, the original plates are to be sold as separate lots after the sale of the 19B. The plates also show the Hindi equivalent.
